Simplifying instructional texts in French and German Easy Language – Comparaison of Easy Language rules and analysis of their limits
2022
Text Linguistics and Classical Studies: Dressler and de Beaugrande’s Procedural Approach
2017
The work represents a significant scientific advancement on text linguistics from three different viewpoints. The first chapter provides an overview of the history of text linguistics from a broader perspective than usual, offering a complete reference framework. The second chapter presents the procedural approach to the study of text linguistics in a concise way, including a critical comparison with other perspectives. The third chapter constructs a very unusual bridge between theoretical linguistics and classical studies in that it takes a literary text in Latin from the early imperial period as its case study. This combination is rare, as theoretical linguists are usually oriented to mod…
Discursive organisation of tourist guided tours : contributional theorisation and valorisation of a professional praxis
2016
The discourse produced in a guided tour stems from different communicative modalities which include the visit assisted by a socio-technical device and the visit guided by an education and visitor service officer. These two modalities show common characteristics of a guided tour; they also offer significant differences. These differences allow us to compile a corpus divided according to its modalities of production and the languages: written text by professionals of the tourism sector, in French and in Spanish. Several issues arise such as the genre taxonomy of the discourse linked to the specific field studied, the unit of the text segmentation which has to free itself from the scriptural o…
Semiotic Textology as the "Grundlagenwissenschaft" for Philology. János S. Petőfi’s scientific inheritance
2014
This paper is addressed to philologists and literary critics and it examines the relationship between Literary Criticism/the Science of Literature and Text Linguistics. Natural Text Processing is an interdisciplinary operating module that describes, analyses, explains, and evaluates texts. From a chronological perspective, literary criticism is the last discipline of the module, and text linguistics plays the role of Grundlagenwissenschaft. In the field of text linguistics, J. S. Petőfi, by combining different types of logical systems, has advanced the most complete theory, one which constitutes the convergence between the two areas of research on natural language, analytic philosophy, and …
Alle Wege Führen Zum Text
2016
The intention of this chapter is to review the development of linguistic research during the twentieth century in Europe and the United States, in order to show that the genesis of text linguistics as a comprehensive theoretical framework was necessary, considering the events from a post-eventum perspective. Firstly, structural linguistics is presented as well as its main exponents; secondly, generative linguistics is discussed; thirdly, the genesis and the development of text linguistics is presented. Concerning the structural linguistics, the key issues investigated by 4 linguists (namely, de Saussure, Benveniste, Hjelmslev and Bloomfield) are summarized. Concerning the generative linguis…
What Makes a Text Easy or Difficult to Understand?
1989
Abstract The question of what makes a text easy or difficult to comprehend is answered on the basis of an empirical investigation, which draws especially on theories related to text and memory linguistics. Easy and difficult texts, verified empirically, were analyzed on micro‐ and macro‐levels. Certain aspects of syntax, lexicon and information structure were first studied. These were followed by text‐level analyses related to the narrative and structural organization and the propositional structure of the texts. The article gives an account of the parameters that were most clearly associated with level of text comprehension. The results are also discussed in the light of the possible impli…
Texte der Lade der Greiffenberger Kaufmannssozietät (1748-1945) aus textlinguistischer Perspektive
2020
Taken out of Silesia at the end of World War II and stored in West Germany, the chest of the Greiffenberg Merchant Confraternity contains books and documents from almost 200 years of the Merchant Confraternity’s activity. These texts form the basis for research into the history of the German language in Silesia, in particular in the field of text linguistics. This paper presents historical, economic, social and cultural conditions that had an impact on the production of these texts and presents the results of the diachronic analysis of “receipt report” as text sub-genre, carried out on the “Book of Receipt Reports” from 1756-1944.
